Liposuction in Zurich
Fat removal for a harmonious silhouette
Liposuction in Zurich – Specialist Plastic Surgery
The liposuction (fat removal) is one of the most common body contouring procedures in plastic-aesthetic surgery. At the Metropolitan Clinic Zurich, Dr. Volker Rippmann, Christian Roessing and their team offer gentle, precise liposuction – individually tailored to your body and your goals.
The goal of liposuction is not weight reduction, but the contour-improving removal of fat cells, which persist despite exercise and a healthy diet – often on the abdomen, flanks, thighs, knees, or arms. The aspirated fat cells do not regenerate permanently. This can make the body's silhouette significantly more harmonious and defined appear.
Individual approach with aesthetic standards
Every liposuction begins with a detailed consultation. During this, we analyze your body proportions, discuss the suitable areas, and clarify realistic goals as well as potential risks. Our specialists use modern techniques to work in a tissue-sparing manner, with small incisions and an aesthetically precise result.
If necessary, liposuction can also be combined with other procedures – e.g., a skin tightening or autologous fat treatment for volume augmentation elsewhere.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure for the removal of localized fatty tissue. The goal is not weight reduction, but targeted body contouring – especially in areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, or arms.
Liposuction is suitable for people with stubborn fat deposits that persist despite a healthy diet and exercise. Good skin quality is ideal so that the tissue tightens up after the procedure.
This depends on the extent of the treatment. Generally, you should expect 3 to 7 days of recovery time. You should avoid sports activities and strenuous physical exertion for about 4 to 6 weeks.
The aspirated fat cells do not regenerate. If body weight remains stable after the treatment, the result is permanent. With larger weight fluctuations, remaining fat cells can expand.
The procedure of liposuction
1. Consultation
In a detailed consultation, Dr. Volker Rippmann or Christian Roessing will discuss your wishes and clarify whether liposuction is suitable for you. We analyze your initial situation, explain the possibilities, and create an individual treatment plan.
2. Preparation
After deciding on the treatment, you will receive all important information for preparation – including behavioral guidelines before the procedure, blood tests if necessary, and anesthesia education.
3. The Procedure
The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis or with a short clinic stay – depending on the extent. Under local anesthesia with twilight sleep or general anesthesia, the fatty tissue is gently loosened and precisely aspirated through small skin incisions.
4. Recovery
We will accompany you through the entire healing phase with clear instructions for aftercare and regular follow-up appointments. Light movement is possible again soon, but you should refrain from sports for a few weeks.
5. Visible results after a few weeks
The final result usually appears after three to six months – once all swelling has completely subsided and the tissue structures have stabilized. The result is permanent, provided that body weight remains stable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Like any surgical procedure, liposuction also carries certain risks – e.g., swelling, temporary sensory disturbances, bruising, or in rare cases, irregularities in the skin appearance. At the Metropolitan Clinic Zurich, we work with state-of-the-art technology and tissue-sparing methods to minimize risks.
The incisions for liposuction are usually only a few millimeters long and are placed as inconspicuously as possible. In most cases, they heal very well and are barely visible later. We use particularly fine instruments to keep scar formation as minimal as possible.
This depends on skin elasticity. With good skin quality, the tissue usually retracts by itself after aspiration. For loose skin, additional skin tightening may be necessary. In many cases, we achieve very good results with supplementary procedures such as radiofrequency (BodyTite) or surgical tightening.
First changes are usually visible after a few weeks, the final result appears after about three to six months – once swelling has completely subsided and the tissue has firmed up.
The costs vary depending on the treatment region, extent, and method. In a personal consultation, we will create an individual treatment and cost plan for you – transparent and tailored to your needs.
Yes. Liposuction is often combined with other aesthetic treatments, for example, with an abdominoplasty, an arm lift, or autologous fat treatments (lipofilling). Combinations with skin tightening using BodyTite are also possible. We will be happy to advise you on which procedures can be meaningfully combined.
The aspirated fat cells are permanently removed. With stable weight, the result remains stable. However, if there is significant weight gain, other fat deposits can enlarge. A healthy lifestyle supports the long-term result.
Detailed information is available in a personal consultation, where we will jointly determine the appropriate procedure for you.
