What is Botulinum Toxin A?
Botulinum Toxin A, also known by the trade name "Botox" or abbreviated "BTX", is a well-researched neuromodulator that has been successfully used for many years in aesthetic medicine as well as in certain medical specialties.
It is a prescription drug that specifically reduces the activity of certain facial muscles – precisely, locally, and for a limited time. The muscular relaxation leads to the smoothing of the overlying skin. In this way, expression lines can be visibly softened, for example, on the forehead, around the eyes, or between the eyebrows.

After a Botulinum Toxin A treatment, the effect usually begins within 3 to 5 days. The final result is visible after about 10 to 14 days. How long the effect lasts depends on various factors – including the treated area, individual muscle activity, and personal metabolism. On average, the duration of effect is 3 to 6 months. After this, muscle activity may gradually return. With regular application, the duration of effect can be extended, as the musculature develops less strongly due to repeated relaxation. As with any medical treatment, temporary side effects can occur with the use of Botulinum Toxin A. These are often mild redness, swelling, or small bruises at the injection sites – which usually subside within a few hours to days. In rare cases, a temporary muscle imbalance may occur, for example, due to too high a dosage or incorrect placement.
