Lifting and Volume in One Procedure
A breast lift with implants combines two goals in a single surgical procedure: the correction of sagging and the simultaneous creation of breast volume. Patients who, after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss, complain of both a sagging breast shape and a lack of fullness, particularly benefit from this combined surgical method. While a classic lift corrects ptosis, the implant simultaneously ensures that the breast regains volume and fullness – for a natural, harmonious overall appearance. At the Metropolitan Clinic in Zurich, Christian Roessing, M.D., and Dr. Volker Rippmann perform this demanding operation with many years of experience and the highest precision. When is a Breast Lift with Implants Recommended?
A breast lift with implants is recommended when sagging and volume loss occur simultaneously. A pure lift corrects ptosis but cannot replace missing breast volume – and breast augmentation alone does not sufficiently lift a sagging breast. The combined operation therefore achieves significantly better results in both shape and volume. Especially when the breast has lost firmness and fullness after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, this surgical method offers the most comprehensive solution. Common indications include:
- Pronounced breast ptosis with simultaneous volume loss after pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Age-related changes in breast shape and volume
- Sagging and volume reduction after significant weight loss
- Asymmetries where a lift and implant balance the body image

Advantages of Breast Lift with Implants
The combined surgical method offers clear advantages over individual procedures:
- Lift and breast augmentation in a single procedure – less anesthesia, less downtime
- Simultaneous restoration of natural breast shape and volume
- More harmonious body proportions and improved body image
- Individual implant choice: Size, shape, and material are tailored to you
- Anatomically shaped or round silicone implants for a natural result
- Fewer scars than with two separate operations

Procedure for Breast Lift with Implants
1. Consultation
During the consultation, your surgeons assess the degree of ptosis and analyze the volume loss. Together with you, the shape and size of the implant, its placement, and the incision technique are individually planned. The scar progression, potential risks, and realistic expectations are also discussed in detail.
2. Preparation for Surgery
Before the procedure, necessary medical examinations and a physical pre-examination take place. Certain medications must be adjusted. Quitting smoking at least four weeks before the operation is important to minimize healing risks. Your surgeons will guide you through each preparation step.
3. The Operation Procedure
The breast lift with implants is performed under general anesthesia and lasts 2 to 3 hours. Excess breast tissue and skin are removed, and the nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, natural position. Subsequently, the silicone implant – depending on the findings, under or over the pectoral muscle – is inserted, and the incisions are carefully closed.
4. Recovery and Aftercare
After the operation, you will wear a supportive bra for 4 to 6 weeks as part of the aftercare. Swelling and feelings of tension gradually subside in the first few weeks. Most patients are able to return to light work after 1 to 2 weeks. Sports activities should be paused for 6 weeks. Regular follow-up appointments ensure the healing process and accompany you until the final result.
Risks and Limitations
As with any surgical procedure, risks can also occur with the combined lift operation. These include swelling, post-operative bleeding, infections, and temporary changes in nipple sensitivity. Scars are unavoidable but fade significantly over time and are generally not visible under clothing. In rare cases, capsular contracture may occur, where scar tissue forms around the implant. Your surgeon will comprehensively inform you during a personal consultation about individual risk factors, possible complications, and realistic expectations – so that you are physically and mentally well-prepared for the procedure and can optimize aftercare.
Costs of Breast Lift with Implants
The costs of a breast lift with implants are composed of the surgical fee, anesthesia costs, implant material, clinic flat rate, and aftercare costs for follow-up appointments and compression garments. Since the scope of the procedure, implant type, and individual needs significantly influence the total costs, you will receive your personal cost estimate only after the consultation. We place great importance on transparent communication – without hidden costs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Breast lift with implants
Modern silicone implants are designed to feel very natural. Generally, the implant is neither visible nor noticeably palpable when positioned correctly. Whether the implant is placed under or over the pectoral muscle affects its palpability: placement under the pectoral muscle appears particularly natural and is preferred by most patients.
High-quality breast implants do not routinely need to be replaced after a certain period. However, in case of visible changes, discomfort, or capsular contracture, a medical check-up is recommended. Modern implants are designed for longevity and, in an uncomplicated course, last for many years.
Depending on the incision technique, scars run around the areola, possibly vertically downwards, and in the inframammary fold. They fade over months and are generally not visible under clothing. Your surgeons choose the incision technique to keep scars as discreet as possible.
In most cases, breastfeeding is still possible after the procedure. The exact incision technique and the placement of the implant influence breastfeeding ability. If you are planning a pregnancy, please be sure to mention this during the consultation.
The result is long-lasting and, in many cases, permanent. Factors such as pregnancy, significant weight fluctuations, or natural skin aging can influence the result over time. A healthy lifestyle and regularly wearing a supportive bra help to maintain the result for as long as possible.
