Applications of the CO₂ Laser

Applications of the CO₂ Laser

The fractional CO₂ laser can target various depths of the skin and is suitable for:

  • Skin rejuvenation (Skin Resurfacing) – refines the complexion, tightens, and makes the skin appear more even
  • Wrinkle treatment – especially around the eyes, mouth, and forehead
  • Scar correction – for acne, surgical, or injury scars
  • Pigmentation disorders & sun damage
  • Pore refinement and irregular skin texture
  • Stretch marks

Eyelid lift with the CO₂ laser (Laser Blepharoplasty)

The CO₂ laser can be used not only for skin renewal but also for gentle eyelid lifting without a scalpel. In so-called Laser Blepharoplasty, excess, sagging skin on the upper or lower eyelids is precisely vaporized and tightened.

Advantages of laser eyelid lift:

  • No surgical incision, therefore minimal bleeding
  • Shorter healing phase than with traditional surgery
  • Tighter, more alert look without visible scars
  • Particularly suitable for mild to moderate skin excess

Here too: The final result becomes visible after a few weeks, once new collagen has formed and the skin structure has stabilized.

Can CO₂ laser treatment be combined with other procedures?

Can CO₂ laser treatment be combined with other procedures?

Yes – CO₂ laser treatment can be very well combined with surgical procedures. It is often used as a supplement to facelifts, surgical eyelid lifts, or scar corrections to further improve skin quality and refine the overall result. A combination with minimally invasive procedures such as PRP or medical needling is also possible.

Your treating physician will advise you individually on which combination is best suited for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fractional CO₂ laser emits fine light pulses that precisely ablate microscopic areas of the skin. This stimulates natural regeneration and promotes the formation of new collagen. The result is smoother, firmer, and more evenly textured skin.

As with any medical treatment, there are minimal risks. These include:

  • Temporary redness and swelling
  • Sensitivity to sun
  • Very rarely, infections or scarring

At Metropolitan Clinic Zurich, every CO₂ laser treatment is performed exclusively under medical supervision and according to strict hygiene standards – for maximum safety and optimal results.

Thanks to local anesthesia with an anesthetic cream or – if necessary – a small injection, the treatment is generally well tolerated. After the session, the skin may feel warm or slightly burning for a few hours, similar to a sunburn.

  • Redness and swelling subside within 5–10 days
  • Fine scabs may form and should not be removed
  • Skin hydration and sun protection (SPF 50+) are crucial
  • Final skin renewal visible after about 6–8 weeks

The CO₂ laser can be used on the face, neck, décolleté, or hands. Particularly popular is the treatment of wrinkles, acne scars, and sun damage – as well as laser eyelid lifting on the upper and lower eyelids.

In most cases, a single session is sufficient. For more pronounced scars or deep wrinkles, a repeat session after a few months may be advisable.
